Your guide in Varanger

Summer is the time of colour and activities. Humans and animals alike find themselves busy and eager to enjoy life to the fullest. There’s a lot that needs to be done before the Arctic summer ends and we must use the energy from the midnight sun while it’s still there.

The reindeer spend their days and nights enjoying the green grass, herbs and wild plants that grow along the coast. Their calves have grown from those first unsteady steps and are growing stronger by the day.

Some might find the mosquitoes annoying, but for the growing chicks, they mean full bellies and life. If there are a lot of mosquitoes, we can also be rest assured that there will be plenty of cloudberries when Autumn arrives.

Just as the birds feed on the mosquitoes, the foxes hunt for eggs and chicks to feed its puppies. In the middle of the night, the light is dreamlike, and the wind slows down. This is when the fox hunts, when the world seems to almost stand still.

There is life everywhere. And energy. You’ll find yourself eager to climb mountains, go fishing in the lakes or just sit by the shore, watching the dance of life. Perhaps you’ll see a rare breed of bird? Or perhaps you just want to sit there, breathing in the fresh, Arctic air. You are not just close to nature – you are a part of it.
